About Us

webatelier.net is a laboratory of the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI, Lugano - Switzerland), directed by prof. Lorenzo Cantoni.

webatelier.net mission: to investigate online communication as a true human activity, with a long-term, comprehensive and holistic approach. In particular, stressing human growth and quest for meaning in touristic experiences – eTourism.

webatelier.net is brother lab of the New Media in Education Laboratory within the same faculty.
webatelier.net activities started in 1999. During the firsts years the main activities were related to a course (students attended the course from the Faculty of Communication Sciences and the from Graphic Department (DACD) of SUPSI , the University of Applied Science of Lugano) about website design and development in real context with real business clients.

Nowadays, webaterlier.net is strongly research oriented and it maintains close connections with companies through a problem-based approach leveraging on the past experiences of the lab.

webatelier.net now is primarly focusing its activities on New Media for Tourism Communication; in fact tourism is (among the others) the fields in which ICT and the Internet have shown the most relevant impact.

Our main research lines encompass: (i) User Experience and Usability, (ii) Booking Engines and Reservation Systems, (iii) eLearning and (iv) Online Reputation and Online Promotion.
