Elena is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI, University of Lugano, Switzerland), and she is the Executive Director of the webatelier.net Lab.
Elena’s research interests focus on the dynamics of online tourism communication, on reputation in online media, maturity of destinations and web adoption, perceptions of online public opinion, persuasive technology, and online media effects. Other future research efforts will include active ageing and intercultural communication in tourism.
Before starting her PhD she worked in the tourism sector as a web consultant where she was principally involved in online communication and marketing strategies. She was a visiting scholar at Erasmus University (Rotterdam, Netherlands) where she investigated the intersection between the research fields place branding and eTourism. Elena was a visiting scholar at the National Laboratory for Tourism & eCommerce at Temple University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (Philadelphia, PA, USA) where she worked towards the completion of her Ph.D. Her visiting scholarship was funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
Elena is a teaching assistant for the courses ‘Online Communication and Promotion’, ‘New Media for Tourism Communication’, and lecturer for the course “eTourism Technology Lab”. Elena is managing also various applied research projects at the webatelier.net laboratory. She holds a Master’s degree in Media Management from the University of Lugano (USI), and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences major in Mass Media at the University of Padua (Italy).
